Research shows that slow breathing shifts our nervous system into a relaxed state, lowering stress hormones like cortisol and reducing inflammation.

Slow, controlled breathing does not directly guarantee an increased life expectancy, but it supports overall health and longevity by reducing stress and improving heart and lung function.

Intentional slow breathing is very healthy for most people. Taking about 6 breaths per minute activates our nervous system to rest, lowering our heart rate, reducing stress, and calming your mind.

Breaths per minute Normal Range: A healthy resting adult typically takes 12 to 20 breaths per minute.

I have been aware that slow longer the normal breathing can induce even less than eight breaths per minute – maybe four. It seems when the mind is calm the breath slows right down and when the breath is authentic slow and long, the mind is empty or nearly empty.
